Barcelona have confirmed a Dani Olmo injury that is expected to keep the midfielder out for approximately a month. The club's medical statement on Wednesday, 21 October identifies a left-adductor injury sustained in a collision with an opponent during the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain.

The announcement puts Olmo out of contention for Sunday's El Clasico on the club's current recovery estimate. That is the immediate sporting consequence of the diagnosis, rather than a separately announced team selection. Barcelona have not supplied an exact comeback date, and an approximate month should not be treated as a guarantee that he will return for a particular fixture.

What Barcelona have confirmed

The new statement follows medical tests and gives both the location of the injury and an estimated period of absence. It describes a traumatic action involving an opponent, rather than presenting the problem as a routine selection decision. The club does not specify an injury grade or announce surgery in the update.

For supporters comparing earlier reports, Wednesday's diagnosis is the substantive development. The injury happened during Tuesday's European game; its confirmed assessment arrived the following day. This report concerns that availability change, not a recap of the completed match or an attempt to infer a longer recovery from television pictures.

Clasico preparation is already under way

Barcelona's separate Wednesday training report says the players with the heaviest workload against PSG carried out gym work, while the rest trained on the grass at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Hansi Flick worked with the available first-team players, with Hamza Abdelkarim and Alex Campos also involved after travelling to Paris.

That split session matters when interpreting training photographs. A player being absent from a particular pitch exercise is not, by itself, proof of another injury. The club expressly described different recovery arrangements according to workload. Olmo's position is different because there is a specific medical statement confirming his problem.

Other absences require separate assessments

The latest setback comes after Barcelona's 18 October medical bulletin on Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde. Eric was diagnosed with a muscle injury in the front of his right thigh, with a three-to-four-week recovery estimate. Kounde had a left-ankle sprain and was ruled out of the PSG match.

Crucially, that earlier bulletin left Kounde's Clasico availability dependent on his recovery. It did not give him the same prognosis as Eric, and Olmo's new diagnosis does not change the wording of Kounde's update. Those distinctions should be retained rather than combining three different medical situations into one blanket absence list.

Squad context without a predicted replacement

Barcelona's published squad for the trip to Paris had already excluded Eric and Kounde, while including Olmo. It also listed midfield options including Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Marc Bernal. That earlier travelling group provides context, but it is not the final squad for Sunday's league fixture.

Flick's response remains a selection question. A coach can redistribute minutes, alter the balance of a midfield or change the attacking connections around it; a list of available names does not establish which approach he will choose. No replacement for Olmo is being presented here as an officially confirmed starter.

When is Barcelona against Real Madrid?

The official fixture announcement places the first league Clasico of 2026/27 at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, 25 October, in matchweek ten. Kick-off is 21:00 in Barcelona, equivalent to 20:00 GMT in the UK. The clocks change that day, so a BST label would be incorrect for the evening fixture.

The announcement also set out the European commitments preceding the league meeting: Barcelona away to PSG and Real Madrid at home to Leipzig. Those are calendar details, not evidence that the two teams will arrive with identical preparation or fitness. Supporters can find more European-football coverage in our Ballon d'Or nominees guide.

Olmo's absence now gives Barcelona a confirmed personnel problem to address during that preparation window. The next useful updates will be the club's further medical information, the manager's pre-match comments and the eventual match squad. Until those arrive, the month-long estimate remains approximate and any proposed line-up remains a prediction.
